EzyEconomics News - the deficit and government debt

Last week a number of news items placed the focus on the UK's deficit reduction plan. This encouraged EzyEconomics News to focus on government debt and to look at the relationship between government debt, how it is traded on financial markets and the impact on borrowing costs in the UK and other countries.

As this is an extensive area the discussion will be spread over 3 videos to be issued this week. The first video provides a basic introduction to the deficit, why this means the government needs to borrow money and how much money it has borrowed on our behalf.
